Day Old Chicks - and Already the Babies Need Therapy!

Oh, Thank you! I have my first chicks coming in the next few days, and am very excited! Getting my "brooder" ready today, and so your post was at the perfect time! I am always amused by my adult hens (we adopted them as adults), so I am sure the babies are going to be a riot!

As they get older, they still have no respect for sleeping siblings!!! Mine are 5 weeks old as of tomorrow and there's always one that feels the need to launch herself onto all of her sleeping siblings! Just wait til they learn how to dust themselves! I can actually sit with them for hours, watching them lie on their sides while they kick the shavings up onto themselves!!!

Have a blast with them while you can because they grow incredibly fast!!!!

Have you noticed the chicken games they play? One of mine will pick up a piece of shaving and take off. All the others will chase them. They are a week old. I put a piece of stove wood with bark in there and they love to play king of the mtn. too. Funny little critters for sure. Gloria Jean

I remember when I got my first chicks two years ago and they started rolling around in the shavings and my dh and I thought there was something terribly wrong with them,I said well they will pobably all be dead in the morning, in the morning I hated to look thought that all 10 would be dead,now I know they were taking a dust bath!! dah

My chicks always wanted to be at the ONE spot at the feed or water dish where everyone else was.
