Day Old Chicks and Nipple Waterer

Received 24 1-day old chicks today; will they figure out the verticle nipple waterer on their own, or do I need to be proactive about trying to show them how to push it with their beaks? I tried with the first couple, but there is so little space to work with under the waterer when its their height that it was hard to accomplish anything, and they were just trying to get away from me.

They should figure it out on their own, as the shiny silver lever is attractive to them, but I would still leave a dish-style waterer available until you know for certain they are using the nipples. And remember, they may not eat/drink very much for the first 3 days of life.
