I've had a batch of eggs underneath a broody that have hatched over the weekend. This silkie chick was in her egg for a while from pip to hatch, and was the last to hatch. She has quite a bad wry neck, and I've seperated her from the broody, as I found her this morning on her own on her back, not under the broody, and both mum and baby were clearly distressed. I've started giving her "lifeguard" through a syringe, and I think some of it is getting through. For anyone that doesn't know, lifeguard is like a vitamin mix for chickens.

Is there anything else I can do for her?

Please bare in mind I'm in the UK, so not all US products are available to me. It's also a Sunday, so there is no way I'll be going to any sort of vet of expert today.

Give her some electrolytes it's in Gatorade mix it in her water and feed it to her with an eye dropper never let her lay on her back it's bad for her guts it can hurt her check her legs make sure she doesn't have legs that are wide apart or straddle good luck hope she heals

That is encephalomalacia or star gazing, a type of wry neck that is usually from thiamine deficiency. I would treat with poultry vitamins or Poultry NutriDrench or Poultry Cell, but whichever vitamin should contain both vitamin B1 (thiamine) and E, with selenium also. Many use liquid baby vitamins without iron as well, but just give one type.

Thank you very much for your reply, the vitamin mix I'm using at the moment has all that and some of it must be going through as she's done a watery poop. Would you attempt to feed her any sort of solids as well? She is very newly hatched so has her energy supply from yolk at the moment..

Also I've read about making some sort of neck brace for her, is that something I should consider?
