Yep, only six. Was going to have some Blue Wheatens, but JD's hens weren't laying, so just the six Crees, blue over blue. Could be blue, black or splash. If I cant hatch a Splash Orp pullet, maybe I can hatch a Splash Ameraucana pullet.
Monday, 49 eggs go in the hatcher, due April 24. Of the ones due on May 1, I removed two more from the Buff Orps, the ones I mentioned previously and they indeed, had no embryo. SO, there will be 11 in that later batch still in the running, making the total, as of now, between the two batches, 60 eggs remaining out of the original 73.
Honestly, I was thinking that I would get only about 35 chicks from this hatch. If these continue as well as they are and actually hatch, looks like I'll have a few more than I anticipated, LOL. Not such a bad thing, right?
Of course, anything can happen between now and a hatched chick, as all veteran hatchers know.
Oh, Cyn, you make me wish I could see in those marans eggs of Sara's! I know some are developing as I said veins when I first candled, but they are so hard to see in I can't really tell. My daughter is getting anxious too. I can't wait until next Saturday. I have 17 marans and 2 of mine own. If I can hatch half, I'll be really happy. Temps and humidity have been really constant so far.
Seeing those babies growing helps you keep from going insane, doesn't it? I'd go nuts if I couldn't candle at all! Good luck with those. I hope you get a great hatch.
