I went to spend some enjoyable, relaxing time with a friend yesterday, but when I was on my way home DH called to tell me that:
a) DD (she is 22 and lives about 4 hours away) called and was hysterical because she was attacked by a dog. Apparently the dog bit somebody before. It was taken to the pound, put down, an is being tested for rabies because it didn't have a rabies shot. From what I gather, DD was coming out of a store and heard somebody yell 'Hey Lady!' I don't know if they were yelling at DD or if the dogs name was lady, or...? Anyhow, she turned to see the dog run out into traffic. The dog ran back, but the owners were having trouble catching it. DD yelled at the dog to get it's attention, thinking it would help the owners catch it, and the dog came and attacked her. No stitches, but she said something about them wanting the wounds left open to drain. She said there were chunks of her flesh on her jeans, and when I talked to her (about 4 hours after DH called me) she said that she needed to change the gauze because it was soaked through again. I am driving out in a few hours to see her and make sure that she is ok.
b) DH also told me that DS went to the local hospital because his best friend (who is like a member of our family) was in an accident. He drives a delivery truck and a tire went off of the road. Due to a soft shoulder, he lost control and the truck ended up on it's side in the ditch. The friend was driving and the drivers side was on the bottom. His side of the cab was crushed in and he was under water when everything stopped moving. His leg was trapped between the steering wheel and the shift lever and he had to get his partner (who was freaking) to help bend the steering wheel to get him out. When the folks from his work went out to the scene later, they said that the drivers side was under about 4' of water and that looking at the damage he is lucky to be alive. The tow truck driver asked if there were fatalities. Since he lives alone DS brought him here so we can keep an eye on him. Apparently the folks at the hospital waited until right before he was released to 'clean' his scrapes up. They didn't do a good job, the kid was here picking some pretty good sized chunks of glass out of his arm.
So I'm off to feed my critters and get some sleep before I hit the road...
