DD home for a few days prior to deployment!! YEAH!!!

Thanks so much for the info!! We have downloaded Skype onto all of our computers...I need to see if this will give us a "notice" ring when she signs on. We also bought cameras for all the computers...ours, mine at work, grandmas, etc...so whenever she signs on we can see her as well as talk.

She likely won't be leaving her Camp in Baghdad so I am fortunate in that regard.

A shout out and thanks to all of our military members and loved-ones of them for their sacrifices.

It's hard to understand all that the word "sacrifice" means until you are involved with a loved one/close friend.

Not sure how Skype works but Yahoo Instant Messenger with Voice is free and with a cheap headset you can actually talk to her and it's as clear as a bell. In Yahoo there are preferences that can be set and I set my pcs to ring a distinct ring - they had many to choose from. Because there was such a big time difference, I would often hear the pc ring in the middle of the night and I would bolt out of bed and log on to speak to my son. It, and God, truly got me through his tour of duty.

Does your daughter know where she will be yet when in Iraq...
My husband is over there for his 2nd tour right now. he will be home next april (April 2010) unless they get extended....
We have Skype, and the Yahoo messanger on our computers, hopefully someday we will get to try them out...I know last time the yahoo messanger was difficult to use when actually talking cuz there was such a time delay on both ends...But it was still wonderful to hear and see each other(even if jason looked like he was a robot with the time delays...lol)
Tell your daughter thanks for everything she is doing......

Now I am just waiting for Jason to send out an email with his mailing address for me...I have 4 boxes waiting to go out....

Not sure if this is going to be for everyone or just where Jason is at, but he was informed that if they want internet it's gonna cost them $50 a week, and the phones need special calling card type things which will also have a weekly price...He hasn't heard those prices yet...
Really sucks that he has to pay so much for the internet, but I guess it's one thing that is needed if we want to keep in touch...

My hubby uses skype for work. You can pay to have your own phone number set up. It's all pretty cheap. He uses the headset he uses for computer gaming.
