De Crowing Rooster

I had a friend who knew how to do it but unfortunately he has long since passed away.

I am still waiting on info from my vet. I found information about another vet who was said to have developed an technique to de crow roos. so far my vet has not ben able get a hold of the vet. I do believe it has to do with the actual cutting of the vocal cords.
My vet thinks it might be done with lasers. If i get the info I will post it.

In my opinion, it's a similar idea to de-barking a dog. TONS of dogs bark at night and in the city and people just tolerate that ruckus. I don't think many people would be apt to have that surgery done to their pet dog.

I would never do that to my roosters, and I have 3 crowing inside my house right now. Then again, I also have an Umbrella Cockatoo, one of the world's highest decibel producing birds. I'm obviously more sound-tolerant than most.

BUT, in all seriousness, you would be greatly endangering the life of your rooster. Birds do not survive anesthesia well, the mortality rate is incredibly high. And I wouldn't dream of trying to find a way to do it with just local anesthesia, that would be extremely painful and inhumane. I think crowing is just part of life with a rooster.

It's sad that a roosters crow is so hated.

I don;t like hearing dogs barked all day that are left chained outside, etc.... but not because of the noise, but because of WHY the dog barks. Roos crow because they're happy and because they CAN!

I wish it were a more welcomed sound in our society....... I LOVE it myself!

All though, I can imagine there are days when you must just want it to SHUT-UP! LOL

Oh yeah... our Silkie (in the house) crows once to twice a day.... we all get a kick out of it. My only worry is that the nieghbors will catch on and complain before I get the bantam coop finished. But, I don;t think you can really hear it from outside really..... and I'm planning on telling anyone that asks that we have a parrot that mimics a roo
