spatcher, you're right. I think I read here about the crop issue. I certainly have no personal experience with this, and I really would like to give it to the chickens so maybe I'll try it with extra conservative amounts.

Whenever I clean the chicken coop I just throw in a couple of cupfuls of DE to kill any buggies. Wearing a dust mask or holding your breath is a good idea because it can't be good to breath that stuff into your lungs!

I have read about DE on this site and have been using it. Someone suggested using a flour sifter to sprinkle it, but that has not been very successful for me. Do any of you all have better ideas for spreading the DE in the coop and run areas?

Yes to spread the DE I use a poofer. Or you could just use a plastic bottle one that works very well is a Baby powder bottle. It comes out and spreads more evenly and more efficiently.

I myself use a sifter, but I do like the baby powder bottle idea.

I just use a little cup and throw it in different areas because I know that the chickens will go in and mix everything up.

Will DE help take care of the cocci problem if the chickens have bloody poop?

Not a chance of curing it but will help dry it up once its out. Get the meds you need if you havent yet, then put down DE in the run/coop to help with the messy problem!

ok my co-op has "feed" grade is that the same as food grade?
