i was blonde once....maybe I am having a moment.
ouch my head hurts.

I implore you to try to get more than 8# of DE in the 9.30 box. Even with 8# I have been warned by USPS that the box is to not "change shape" when full LOL - So far they keep taking it!

The local small business feed dealer where I buy feed, ordered it for me, a 50lb bag from Permaguard, just under $30. Lots cheaper than if I ordered it online. hadn't been able to find any around here either, and just asked, not really expected them to know what it was. Turned out, they'd carried it for awhile, just recently stopped, but I hadn't known it was there.

Sometimes a small feed dealer will get you things the bigger places won't.

thanks for everything I will keep looking and find some DE I will look for Stall DRy and Sweer PDZ to I will let you know what I find Thanks again

Hi GopherBoyFarms-
We're neighbors! I also live in Vancouver! I was wondering...what feed store do use? I am going to get our coop up and running this weekend and I want to pick some DE up. I better ask though-My chicks are 2 and 4 weeks old (I will put the heat lamp out there) are they too young to put DE in the coop? should I wait 'till they are a little older? Thanks in advanced!

I would be very careful with this one! To be food grade, DE must have a crystalline silica content of less than 3% - According to Insecto's data sheet "it can contain up to 6.3% crystalline silica content! More than twice the amount allowed in food grade!

Hi nieghbor! We get almost all our chicken stuff (feed, DE, pine, scratch) from Orchards feed. We love that place! The people there are so helpful, and super friendly. We found that we save at least $1.00 on or feed, and the bedding is great priced and the food grade DE is is under $20 for 50 pounds. You can start using DE from day one with the chicks. It's so great having such a awesome feed store right up the road from us. We are in Heritage neighborhood out by Hockinson and it's just a few miles from our place.

what area are you in?

I was there today! We just went in to price some things out. we bought our chicks at Burns Feed out towards Sandy, OR. GREAT place but way too far... Anyway, we live in central vancouver on the backside of Royal Oaks Country Club. We are in the Evergreen school district but right on the edge of the Vancouver school district. Small world Huh?
well thanks for the advice! I will go in a couple of days to get some DE so I can set up the coop. Nice to meet you neighbor!
