DE for hookworms on 8 week old puppy

I am with Greyfield on this one. I have been a certified vet tech for 10+ years.......

..watched a lot of puppies and kitten die from emaciation from worms. WOuldnt be worth it to me to take a chance with something that hasnt been proven on my puppy. THe meds from the vets are PROVEN to work.

Get the wormer from your Vet and give a half teaspoon of FOOD GRADE DE in his food daily and you should be all set.

To do both is a waste of $. The meds will take care of it in a few doses, rather than 60 days of DE.

Hookworm eggs are very viable outside the body in soil, even in extreme condition. Reinfestation occurs through the pad on the foot. I would recheck my puppy every 6 moths to a years, just to be safe. EVen if he isnt getting sick from them, you dont want him running around your yard leaving eggs in the soil.....

YOU CAN GET HOOKS FROM YOUR DOG. Most times it is not a problem for humans, but even more reason not to mess around with something that MIGHT work.​

Yes, definitely, what tiffanyh said--always wear shoes in your yard!

I had a hippie friend in high school who often went barefoot, despite what the equestrian teacher told her about the horses and local dogs carrying hookworms. She had anemia all the time, which the school nurse and her regular doc ascribed to her being vegetarian. Coughing was ascribed to her smoking. She wasn't properly diagnosed and treated until the worms were causing scarring in her mouth from so many hatching out of her muscle tissue.
