Farmers only worry during the growing season, but towns people worry all the time.

I'm a little lost here? You found a brooding duck dead right besides her, who???? or did you find several broody ducks dead? Incubator ready, are you going to try and hatch the eggs yourself? What kind of duck? have you every hatched out ducks before? do you know how long she or them has been sitting on the eggs?

Sorry not real clear on what you are saying here??

Sorry I found one of my broody ducks dead beside her nest. Yea im gonna try and finish incubating the eggs. I have no idea what happened to her. I seen her this morning eating and doing her broody walk. Id just like to know how to go about the eggs. I've hatch them before just don't know if they need special care now.

I' m sorry to hear about your broody, I think I'd examine the body to make sure you don't have a predator since you just hatched out 11 ducklings well another of your broodys did. Maybe snake bite?

I would definitely agree check out the body, they don't usually just all of a suddenly die like that exspecially since she's been sitting on eggs, they are usually calm relaxed and waiting for there new arrivals.

If you hatched eggs before just treat them exactly like you did in the past, if it worked stick with it. No specially care without mommy. The tricky part is trying to figure out what day is lockdown day..

Maybe
I say she was dead for w hour or two as rigamortis(sp) ha barely set in to her. Her under left side had already set on by maggots and ants. But would maggots not take longer then 2 hours to hatch? Maybe she injured herself and I didn't notice? She seemed to walk fine?

Did you look for a wound?

That is awful and alarming, ducks don't usually just drop dead, i would definitely exam this bird VERY closely. Sorry for your loss, good luck with the hatch.

Sounds like she's been dead for a while, it takes about 8 hours to a day for maggots to appear all depends on the weather. Hot temps will speed up the hatching.

I think she might of had a laceration on her stomach as I found a rip on her underside. Her nest was in a down brush pile I wonder if she could of did it in there ?. Farmers only worry during the growing season, but towns people worry all the time.
