I had eggs in the incubator for 2 weeks before I transferred them to an experienced broody she's had them for 3 or 4 days. This morning I found a shell beside her and figured she'd eaten a bad egg. So I lifted her up to see how many eggs were left and found this:
400

Any ideas as to why?

Was the broody in a private hatching pen or with other chickens? The egg probably got stomped/broken!

The broody is in a separate hatching pen, completely isolated from everyone else. She has hatched eggs and raised chicks before.

It happens. I set 72 broodies in 2015 and they all were moved to private hatching pens---once in a while a egg would get broken like this, but not a lot!!
