I feed my birds according to their needs. Since I show them I want them show quality. The chicks go on a 26% protein chick starter feed and at around 2 months they go on a 21% protein grower feed. During molts and breeding time they get a breeder feed 20% protein. At other times I may give them 16% layer feed but they always get a little bit of treats. Treats are also a good way to train the birds. They will do just about anything for a little bit of treats.
