Dead Chicken

I have six 8-9 week old chickens in an outdoor coop. When I went to let them out this morning only 5 came out. The last one is dead in the corner. This is the corner that they all sleep in at night. She was fine yesterday and the other chickens are all acting fine today. Do you think maybe they smothered her huddling in the corner? It was probably around 40 degrees last night but they have been out for 2 weeks already and seemed to be okay. I dont know what else could have killed her unless the other chickens killed her.

Yes I'd think they would be too big to smother each other. Do they have a roost to sleep on?

Yes they do have a roost. I have never actually seen any of my Silkie girls on the roost though. The BRs are always on the roost but it is plenty big enough for all of them.
