Today our 15-month-old Americauna died suddenly.

She seemed fine earlier in the day and was showing no sign of illness. Then all of a sudden there was a ruckus in the coop and we got out there just in time to see her thrash around on the floor and die.

I examined her and sure enough there was an egg with no shell stuck in her vent. The yolk looked cooked.

I did not suspect that she was egg bound as she'd been laying and acting normally.

Any help in figuring out what could have caused this would be very appreciated, as we have one surviving hen and I don't know whether it could have been an infection that she would be at risk for.

I'm sorry for your lose
