Ok went out to feed chickens and found a dead hen in the roosting box. I assume she died during the night and fell off roost. How common would this be? There is no indication that she was attacked by a predator or by another hen (although she was at the bottom of the pecking order) I can’t find anything wrong with her and she has been acting normal so I was really shocked to find her. I haven’t lost a hen in 2 years so I am pretty bummed out. She was a golden comet and she was just about 2 years old. Any ideas?

Sometimes it just happens.
I had a chicken jump off the wrong side of the roost and brake its neck when it hit the corner of the nest box. I was shocked to see it happen right in front of me.

I love these Golden Comets because they are so laid back and friendly. It really is upsetting that they have such a short life span. I know that she has laid soft shell eggs in the past so egg problems could have been her issue. Thanks for your input everyone!
