I wish there was more we could suggest, it's difficult to diagnose once they have died and had no obvious symptoms. Sooo sorry....

They were upset, had a predator death last week. Didn't see any track on the outside of the barn. No signs on the inside. Will check her out.

Water is thawed. When one of the chickens die, do the others go crazy or are they afraid of something else.

More likely they're afraid because of the predator you're talking about. Not sure where you live, but you might look into the possibility of weasels. I don't have them in my area, but most people do. Apparently they can get in thru remarkably small places & suck a hen dry leaving only a very small wound. This might not be what you've got, but its worth looking into. Good luck!
