I am hesitant because we live right on a highway. It’s out in the country and 2 lanes but the speed limit is 55. Surely they wouldn’t get out in the street? Their coop is quite a ways from the road, but still pretty close.

That's way to small for 35 chickens.

If you want to follow the recommendations, a coop for 4 chickens would be 16 square feet. Forty birds would then need a minimum 160’. The run would need to be 400 sq. feet. If my math is wrong, I hope someone will correct me, but I think that’s right.

Are they all hens or do you plan on culling out roos later?

You need to count the interior square footage not just the length and width calculate 2 foot squared by the number of birds you have then devide by 2 for length and width I think that's right may not be though lol I suck at math I use a calculator
