Maybe you should have a private talk with Speckledhen. She might be able to help you feel more comfortable about what I do and do not know about chickens.

We can all be filled with doom and gloom about what might be making our birds sick, it does not mean that every time one sneezes or coughs that they have some dreaded, non curable disease. Which is exactly why I rarely post on this board.

You don't have to be so snippity. There are people who I bet know way more about chicken diseases then you, and even they can miss things. The OP was wondering what could be wrong, and I was giving examples of what it may be, because god forbid it is one of those............. which after a lot of research, talking to vets, talking to breeders a lot of people have it in their flock and don't know and may never know with out a blood test, it is best to catch it early. Most chickens do not just up and get sick without an underlying factor. What that factor is can be many things. People can hide their head in the sand all they want, but it doesn't make it go away. It is best to know the possibilities. Your bird can have many dieases and appear normal, and still pass it to other birds. They get get fine of of some meds, but that does not mean they are cured.... just a carrier. I hope it was nothing major with this OP's bird, but it's best to be cautious and have the info to watch for. I have had birds come back with "Pneumonia " only for it to have been from other causes. I did not say it never is something else, only most often..............

And if you go back and read what you've posted you'll see that you are implying that I don't know squat about chickens and their care. And yes, that implication has ticked me off.

I read my post and yours. I first stated some common causes of those symptoms, not having to do with anything you posted.( I didn't even read your post)

You asked why I did not mention pneumonia, in which I replied that it is often part of those things that I listed, and unless the OP's chicken got very very wet and cold I did not think it was as common.
( As I had listed the more COMMON reasons that are popping up for wheezing, IMO.)

No where did I read anything in which I said I doubted your intelligence.....

You were the snippity one. And I have every right to state my opion.... you were the one questioning

Emzee, I'm sorry your chicken got sick and died. I just wanted you to be aware of what to look for in case it was more than a simple illness, to protect your other chickens. It is hard to lose one, but even harder to lose a flock, especially if you could have recognized early warning signs. Best Wishes

Thanks to everyone for all the advice. I will certainly be keeping a close eye on my other chickens to make sure none of them caught whatever it was.

I am sure that's not what chickenzoo was implying. I am sure chickenzoo was just trying to help and well the chicken died so something is up
