Dead Squirrel ~ What Could Have Happened To Him?

I was walking around in the chicken yard on yesterday and noticed that there was a dead squirrel by the acorn tree. I have no idea what happened to the little fella. I was shocked because I never saw a dead squirrel before. I thought the little critters were too fast and could easily get away from predators?

Anyone know what could have happened to him?

I felt sorry for the little guy.

jumping from limb to limb and missed his landing.
hawk attack - got away but was injured
old age
heart attack
poisoned food

could have been any number of things. Even as simple as parasites.

Hit by a car is my guess. Or maybe parasites, viral infection?

If he had any parasites or infection, I wonder if my animals could pick up on any illnesses or diseases from the poor little fella?

Most diseases are species related but if any of your birds ate it worms could be an issue.

First thing I thought was that he got knocked out by an acorn..

but that probably wasn't it..

Any powerlines nearby? Thats probably the #2 cause of dead squirrels, after cars

Around here they are suicidal , they will dart infront of cars.

hahaha my drivers ed teacher had a suicidal rabbit. After he stopped the car the rabbit stopped as well and actually jumped into the car!(well between the headlights)
