Saw this on my FB this morning..... very sad.....I hope his sons learn from their father's death though and avoid (stop)some of the risk factors that caused his much-to-soon death. He was my favorite on the show and he will be missed

I agree with penturner: Phil did what he loved right until the end, the bad and the good. It's sad for those of us left behind, but we could all see it coming. I do hope his sons make healthier choices. My thoughts and prayers are with them, and the rest of Phil's family as well.

I am so sorry to hear this. Phil was my favorite captain too. I do agree with the previous poster though, he knew he was pushing things and would never have been happy sitting at home. My prayers to his family.

Unfortunately 6 packs of cigratted a day will destroy a good person. Man! This is just horrible. I thought he was getting better. Season was supposed to start in April I think. That was literally my favorite Vessel. I hope they still fish but it won't be the same without ole' Phil
