Deadly deformity?

My 3 week old Buff orpington chick just passed...
I started to notice about a week ago his beak looked as if he had an underbite. The bottom beak also slanted slightly to one side, and a small growth at the base started to form.
I saw him eat some this morning before I left, and he had died before I got home.
Anyone have an idea what could have happened?

If the chick had some indication of a midline/left right asymmetry defect in the beak, very well possible it had something wrong inside that finally caught up. Sorry about your loss.
