Nothing to be sorry about. It's a tough thing to do when you have a pet - no matter what kind of animal it is - that you can't keep. I know it's harsh, but it's reality. People keep chickens for different reasons. Some want "pets with benefits", for others, it's more of a utilitarian thing. We go into it knowing that at some point we're going to eat them. Whether it's because they're extra roosters, or hens that are no longer productive. I get new batches of chicks practically every year, knowing that eventually we'll process them. It's still not easy, but it's a fact of life. It's what we do. I don't know what people who have them as pets do when they can't keep them, I really don't. Maybe you can get involved in your neighborhood, city, or whatever local government and start the process of getting the laws changed so you can keep a rooster. Best of luck to you!
