Thanks for all the input. I am trying not to stress. I just feel so bad. I have the little red water top thing that goes onto a mason jar and I just dont know how they could have got wet. It was only a pint size jar half way filled.

Thank you. I just opened the feed I am ging to check it, it looked alright but it couldnt hurt.

Why would they have sent them in these kinds of temperatures?

Sorry to hear about your loss! Wonder why they would ship them in these temps, it's so cold outside!! Might I suggest if you have any survive to give them the yolk of a hard boiled egg and just a drip or two of honey on it, this should help them to get perky! They are to small for this weather!! Good luck to you and I hope the rest survive. Something else is to place small rocks in the red waterer bowl to prevent these tiny babies from getting into it and soaking themselves.

The first heartbreaking picture, looks like a just hatched baby that hasn't dried out. Maybe they were short one for your order and threw it in with the others.

Sadly it probably is cheaper for them to replace an order THAN hold chicks for better whether or send you some from a later hatching.

Did you put them directly into a "preheated" brooder? Did they eat solid food while they were cold?

I have fostered baby animals in the past (squirrels, kittens, a mole, domestic rats, etc...) and I learned that you should warm them slowly and not give solid food until they have reached a normal body temperature because the digestive system can not function when cold. Small amounts of suger water will sustain them while their temps rise. One of the squirrels I took in looked "wet" when it died a couple of hours after I got them. I don't really know why but I think it was oil from its skin.

Honestly, if they reached 9 degrees then they probably would not have survived anyway. I am so sorry you had to experience this. McMurray should have known better!
