Good morning eggies! Get busy growing, Debbie's back and she's going to know if you did your Zumba everyday like you were supposed to, or not. Don't be naughty birdies!

Yay, go Tink silkies and green goodness eggie!I just candled and locked down the eggs due on 3/9 - 5 days ahead due to what seems to be happening with some chicks hatching in 18.5/19 days. 10 of mine and 6 paints on their sides on the rubber mat in the Brinsea.
Due: 3/13 were 22 of Tinks and 12 more paint just candled. I tossed 4 of Tink's (lots left still and the green one who knows as I can't see lol.) Down to 6 of 12 paints. All of those I will put into lockdown when I'm able to remove the hatched chicks in a few days. I should have thought to do staggered hatches more than 4 days apart. Yikes! I will be pulling out chicks when the others should have been in lockdown already. This will be interesting!
Sadly, I candled the 24 buffs/cuckoos and most were clears. 10 of those are left in the NR360 with two being questionable. She couldn't have packed them any safer so I do not know what's going on with her eggs as this is the second time of getting maybe 1/3 of them. The paints were two batches of 12 and those are running at 50% left. Tink's beating them all as I've got the majority left, although some I'm not sure about, but still, this should be good!!![]()
If I once again don't get any buffs, or not enough, I'll just find another breeder. I like her a lot and love what I get from her, but this boils down to nearly $15 per chick that makes it, and that's maybe what I'd get if I sold the chicks. So zero profit unless I kept them for breeding.Yay, go Tink silkies and green goodness eggie!
It is still a little early in the season, or maybe her birds need some fluff trimmed. I'm bummed you're having a struggle getting your buffs hatched![]()
I wish I could help you with the bugs, but all I have to offer is a wildcard of who knows what colorsIf I once again don't get any buffs, or not enough, I'll just find another breeder. Tinks roosters must not be getting enough flax; they are just too frisky! The buff/cuckoo ones are from a breeder down near Tink. That lady must have chickens with issues with fertilizing eggs or something as that makes twice now; however, on her Facebook page, I've seen her post gobs of cute little chicks. Who knows what she starts with though. We all know that shipping can take a huge toll on them too so it may not all be the fertilization issue.I could use

Norman looks adorable! Silkies are so cuddleable.I wish I could help you with the bugs, but all I have to offer is a wildcard of who knows what colorsI'll have some non-suprising birds soon, but just blue, black, and splash.
Look at Norman! He's so sweet, and we are all anxious for this new coop to be done so they can move outI can send you Norman eggies this fall ❤ I'll have splash pullets so if you want 100% blues, heck yeah! Lol.

I wasn't sure what to expect as far as viability, I've read about eggs not developing because the cockerel is young, like 8 to 10 months old, not my boys, 5 1/5 months old they were good to go!shoot, and Chonkers had an even bigger mountain to climb, he's in with full sized layers and still somehow got the job done. Not sure how, every time I see him try the hens get away, one was literally running with him standing on her back until he fell off, the poor guy.
I have several boys from that hatch that seem to have a ton of testosterone, I'm wonding if my more proper SOP silkies will be the same? Take Norman for example, he is now 18 to 20 weeks old and I don't think he's noticed the ladies at all yet. I do have a 16 wk old cockerel that is definitely feeling his oats, but again, he's not as SOP compliant as Norman.
