Yay! Keeping three!?! Wow, that dark one is unique! I'm glad you are keeping it so I can see how it grows up :celebrate and the paints too, that is SOOOO cool!!!

Next Saturday I'll get to see how many paints hatch :fl 9 paint eggies going so hopefully I'll hit the 50%-ish mark! (and of those theoretically 25% can be chocolate paint, please please please!!!)

So cool we broke our No Hatching Until 2025 rule, and the No Keeping Chicks after July rule together, and now we will be raising winter paints too!!!!!!!!!
We're a team! :highfive: We would have supported each other to hold off any further hatching, but look at us both go now! ❤️ Like @The Coop Crew said:
LAWS ARE MEANT TO BE BROKEN WHEN IT COMES TO CHICKENS OKAY?! 🤣❤️😅

I looked that dark chick over and granted, they do so much changing in a couple of weeks, but I think it will be some version of a chocolate partridge. That's my guess for now.

Chocolate paints would be awesome!! 🥰

For those who thought I should try to put the three chicks I'm keeping under a hen, and I explained I'm gun-shy due to having hens abandon chicks at 4-6 weeks three times before: I tried it with my old hens.

Hen 1, white, just looked at them and walked away. Hen 2, black, attacked them. I pushed her off, and she ran back to attack them. I pushed her off again, and she turned around and came back. This time I threw her 6' and she came back so I grabbed the chicks and stood there until these old hags went into the coop. I found another broody hen, black, and she gladly let them crawl under her and helped one even. In the 2nd picture, you can see a little chick peeking out of her back side. I spoke to it and it sunk back into the momma hen.

Five minutes later, she got off the nest and ran outside. It was dusk, and all the chickens were coming to the coop. I thought I'd give it a couple of minutes to see if she maybe just needed one more piece of grass or something. She didn't come back, but meanwhile, the partridge hen was on the top row looking down at the chicks in the nest. I thought she might. I left for a couple of minutes and came back to three crying chicks in a nest box and not one of these clucking hens would take care of them. Since I have an attacking hen, I couldn't just leave them there and see if one of them would change their minds.

I gave up and brought them back to the brooder in the house. They're happy, I'm happy. At least now I can say I tried. :yesss:

Is that a good thing, like meaning the other is a hen perhaps? I think you knew to make a buff silkie, it takes a buff rooster and a buff hen. I need a buff rooster!
I'm waiting to see what the other one is. I may have two roosters. I brought my black satin silkie hen in to keep some wounded pullets company being the blue rooster has been abandoning her during the day. They used to hang together all day long but now he thinks he is hot stuff and was running all over everywhere chasing pullets of all ages. No he sleeps and stays with some young game chicks that are a mix of roos and pullets. He still bosses the little game roos around that are sparring with each other but don't cross Blue.
