I was out with my camera some more yesterday.

Carol (Burnette) heading into the aviary to see what's to eat in there. She's nice to them, which is weird as they're over three months apart. Other hens get chased off by Blueboy, who sort of looks out for them.

Here she's with them behind the aviary sharing HHR "treats".

A Marsha sighting! That's Piper on the outside.

I gave MB a trim around his eyes, but I saw that I didn't do enough. We'll keep him in there while we're gone to MN later this week.

Beautiful birds Debbie!

Hi Marsha you high maintenence floof of cuteness!

I forgot to grab a picture of them traveling in back. I’ll get one for the way home on Sunday.

First, how was our 6.5 hour drive to up near Crosby, MN? Crosby is a few miles from Brainerd. We hit the wind and rain but missed the hail. They had marble sized hail right before we got here.

After it stopped storming, we got them set up in the screen tent. These are the 11 buffs that are a month old we couldn’t leave behind.

This is the most room they’ve ever had so they were sure having fun!

Camping trip! How adorable!

I'm glad you missed the hail, oof!

I'm thinking of writing an article on how to camp with baby chicks. Granted, these are a month old, so heat wasn't a worry when the nighttime temps were mid-60's and days were 80's.

I wonder though if a person shouldn't put their chicks on medicated feed if taking them camping due to the "new" dirt they will be exposed to. As it was, these somehow got coccidiosis the day before we left, so were on Corid already. I do think if I have to do this again with healthy chicks though, I might switch them over to medicated just for the extra protection.

Whatcha all think?

I got the car picture on the way home. There are 11 in there. They traveled well. You have to tie the water bottle or it bounces. A chicken waterer would never work. Pellets are probably best as it absorbs all the moisture, so they aren't standing in mush. I suppose we could have also stopped every hour to let them have some water too, but it already was a 6.5 hour drive as it was so that would really add a lot onto the trip.

This is in the back of hubby's trailblazer. We had them and the dogs back there, and most of the luggage and etc. was in the camper we were pulling behind.

That would be a fun read!

Okay, this isn't a "guess what sex my chicken is" but I just posted these for someone else that has me trying to sex theirs a month younger. These are 3 mos old.

Chelsea Chicken (CC) I was hoping was a girl, but he's got a wider comb coming in and wattles that can't be seen but he's got 'em.

Then this one I was hoping was a chocolate cockerel, and pretty sure it's a pullet. I might trade this with one that's like milk chocolate mauvish I was giving to my cousin in a few weeks. She's getting 7 of the 11 and these were two I was keeping.

I would have never guessed that the chocolate was a pullet by looking at that stance. Silkies all look gender confused to me.

The jury is still out on all of them but CC pretty much I'm sure is a cockerel.

This chocolate still could be a cockerel too, but its comb is so much smaller than CC's and no wattles. The stance was more perky as it was trying to see over the planter for its siblings, but I do see what you mean!

I just hope within the next two weeks they'll be more definitive as we are heading to her farm on the 24th so I have to know what four I'm keeping for sure. I'm keeping CC regardless as that's the only real splash I have. Marsha's pretty close to one but I don't think we ever really figured out what Marsha is lol, she's just Marsha. :gig
