My satin blue boy may have a name change to shotgun dude if he keeps being mean and rough with the pullets. He had help but one is injured to the point she has not walked in two weeks.Several Bresse roosters were part of the gang raping.
I have a separate "Cockerel Hostel" that the boys go into once they get too aggressive with the pullets. As long as they are well mannered they can stay with the grow outs but as they get overly interested in the ladies or chasing and pulling feathers, they get relocated. It's been working to keep the peace in the grow out flock.

I hope you pullet recovers!

Ma is holding the pullet now. I think she has internal injuries we just can't treat. I believe bases on her breathing that she is passing now. I have taken all the identifiable boys out of the coop of grow out pullets but Blue Satin. Can't put him in the rooster grow out coop or an other rooster coop I have as they are full size roosters that would kill him. I'm building another coop for him and female silkies. This blue boy is one from Debbie's blood lines that is quite a show boy and I want him to have every chance to get through this stage of manhood. I will put him in with some mature hens that will teach him manners. Larger hens at that. I think he will get an attitude adjustment really soon.

I hope that works. I don't have anything larger here to teach any of mine some manners.

My neighbor has Brahmas and she took one of my horribly mean little roosters. They sure taught him a lesson. He wasn't even allowed in the coop for a couple of weeks and clung over by her fence. He's still got remnants of blood on him.

Fast forward a couple of weeks and they'd stoop down so he could get on them, but he wasn't able to breed them. She has a Brahma rooster that allowed it.

I sure hope he works out like this brat did!

I had 2 little banty cockerels I left with the growouts longer than they should have been, they were terrors. But I was worried about putting them with the bigger cockerels, I was going to put them with my full size layer hens, until I had them all free ranging and the little cockerels were chasing the big hens and jumping on them. The hens were completely scared of the little boys. So, I scooped their overly confident little selves up and dumped them in the Cockerel Hostel. Funny thing is, they are so confident and cocky, the big boys are afraid of them too  they are bantam Ameraucanas and think they are 10 feet tall.

I have 4, 2 are with the big cockerels and 2 are much younger so they are sharing a large cage until I figure out what I'm going to do with these ones. They are super cute, but we don't need 4 little terrors.

I think they all need to be given a chance to get past their first hormonal stage, unless they are like the one above (Lucifer) as that was hatefully mean, or the one hubby shot the other day, as he was homicidal.

Just a few minutes ago telling hubby how great our "King of the Hill," old white rooster turned out. He was just teaching Piper a lesson in whose hen is whose around here. No fighting. He must tell him something as he just follows him and keeps him away from his hens.

I can remember several years ago when he was young and dropped off here with those 3 hens that have since deceased he wasn't so nice. I remember being new at this "mean rooster" thing and saw one tip to pick them up and hold them like a baby. I did that a few times and also recall having the garden hose in my hand when I fed them treats/ferment. When he came at me I sprayed him. Neither are the greatest things to do, but that's all I knew back then, and they worked. He's been wonderful for helping the dogs keep varments away and his hens safe.

Here's the two of them. That hen stays pretty close to King.

Another horrible hatch rate, 32%, but here's 11 gorgeous silkie chicks that hatched yesterday. I'm tickled. 2 NN's in there but the best news is, I got some buffs! :celebrate

There's a couple reds in there too, a black that's probably a cuckoo, and some white or light ones I'm not sure what they are yet.

There's one egg in the incubator I see a little bit of a flutter and a really messed up air cell, so we'll see if that one makes it. I might help it if it's not out in a few hours as the rest of them hatched over 18 hours ago.

I agree, the ones who are potential keepers get an opportunity to get past their overzealous stage. As long as they aren't out and out mean, or dangerous.

What a great journey with your old white rooster!
