Debeaked hens? Cute update!

i get hens from auction usually debeaked and 1 was after a bug on the sidewalk the otherday it was both funny and sad cuz the bottom beak sticking out was keeping it from getting the bug...till the bug crawled up a leaf

Yes, debeaking was "invented" so birds kept in small areas won't kill each other picking, good example: Battery egg farms, they have 2 or 3 hens in a 4 square foot area that has a wire floor, with holes big anuff foe their toes to slip through, and they're forced to lay over and over even in molt. This all stresses them and makes them wan't to take their anger out on each other, so they trim them so they don't pick, but they still scratch each other anyway with their long "talons" that are never trimmed. But I bet next they'll cut off their toes. Sorry it turned into an animal abuse rant...
