December Hatch-A-Long 2014

Yes, those were her sizzles. Unfortunately, my splash have not hatched. I sure yours are going to be as adorable as mine...they are so cute. I have 3 with partridge coloring and one that is the mailman's chick...it's yellow with stripes down his back...and quite a bit bigger that all others.

I really love this chicken thing....it's like Christmas when you get to finally see your presents! Except the presents squak and poop.
I was hoping to get a solid black or white sizzle to use in my breeding pens but doesn't look like that is gonna happen lol this guys to me look partridge already

Also one of my own silkie eggs pipped and it seems to have blood at the pip site. I have never seen that before. thoughts?

one of my pipped ones died :(

I have heard that means they pipped through a vessel. If it's a lot of blood they may pass. If it's not then maybe he has a shot. Is it in the air sac?

so far I have 2 chicks and 2 pipped (that are still alive). The bloody one I took out and made an air hole for and now it looks fine..didnt bleed when I made the air hole either so Im not sure why it bled when it pipped..Im pretty upset about the dead one. It pipped either this morning or last night and I feel terrible that I can remember and didn't help sooner.

so cute! I think I said but maybe not... my neighbor and I share our 4 hens and they live in my yard and my kids do chicken chores every morning and her kids do them every afternoon/evening. Anyway the eggs we are hatching will also be shared between us. We have all selected an egg that we think will either pip first or hatch first and the winner(s) get to name that chick. We are all getting so excited, wonder if we will see a pip tomorrow!

Deb, how do you or anyone else determine if a pipped egg needs Help?

...maybe it's blood vessels receded. Hope they all come out well for you! Some people save them all and others save none. Don't beat yourself up over the lil guy....I seem to be mass murdering them in mine...

I sat on my hands this whole hatch until hour 20...day 21...Then I grabbed my 3 chicks out and my peeping shell. Little guy was super stuck...he lasted over 48 hours in there. Second to pip..got knocked into the corner by the crazy clumsy chick... Rest of the hatch is still doing nothing. I opened the bator just that once and even sprayed it with warm water. So, next up is the brinsea mini...hoping that if it was the drafts in my house doing in my hatches maybe this is draft proof.

I hope I can figure out how to hatch well... I am frustrated...4/21 hatched.

This is my frizzle silkie 'Bono', he's be 10months on the 14th of this month.
He's turned around cleaning himself...note the dark comb blends in....mulberry, not red....a very good thing :)

This is Olivia my EE who just started laying the prettiest mint green/blue eggs :) I just got a Hova-Bator & auto egg turnner... i've been waiting for some fertile eggs, for almost a month now.... i have 6 fertile eggs at this point...hoping for 7 by the time i get the temperature stabilized. This incubator hold three dozen eggs but this is my first time using this Hova-bator...and i can't wait hee-hee.
Last night i turned it on and i'm still messing with the temp and i moved it to the living room where the heat's always on.... i finally found a good spot for it.
Keeping my finger crossed that i got myself a good incubator
