December Hatch-A-Long 2014

Well I've been so busy with holiday stuff lately that I haven't had time to log on. Pages and pages to catch up on lol! Well I have 8 silkies, 3 party mix, and 4 seramas due to hatch today. One mix is out and 3 others are pipped so far. 2 are pipped on the wrong end and several eggs are rocking!

Now off to catch up on what everyone's been up to....

This is my frizzle silkie 'Bono', he's be 10months on the 14th of this month.
He's turned around cleaning himself...note the dark comb blends in....mulberry, not red....a very good thing

This is Olivia my EE who just started laying the prettiest mint green/blue eggs I just got a Hova-Bator & auto egg turnner... i've been waiting for some fertile eggs, for almost a month now.... i have 6 fertile eggs at this point...hoping for 7 by the time i get the temperature stabilized. This incubator hold three dozen eggs but this is my first time using this Hova-bator...and i can't wait hee-hee.
Last night i turned it on and i'm still messing with the temp and i moved it to the living room where the heat's always on.... i finally found a good spot for it.
Keeping my finger crossed that i got myself a good incubator

Oh.. i forgot to ask my question... ' is this cross going to hopefully create a sizzle?' I'm pretty sure it is...

...maybe it's blood vessels receded. Hope they all come out well for you! Some people save them all and others save none. Don't beat yourself up over the lil guy....I seem to be mass murdering them in mine...

I sat on my hands this whole hatch until hour 20...day 21...Then I grabbed my 3 chicks out and my peeping shell. Little guy was super stuck...he lasted over 48 hours in there. Second to pip..got knocked into the corner by the crazy clumsy chick... Rest of the hatch is still doing nothing. I opened the bator just that once and even sprayed it with warm water. So, next up is the brinsea mini...hoping that if it was the drafts in my house doing in my hatches maybe this is draft proof.

I hope I can figure out how to hatch well... I am frustrated...4/21 hatched.

My Hovabator is on a kitchen counter next to my fridge. I'm glad it's worked out there because I really didn't have another place for it where pets and children wouldn't bother it. Speaking of which my cat had no interest in it the first 2 1/2 weeks and now he's been hanging around by that counter. Hmmm, maybe he knows chicks are coming and wants at them. Better keep my eye on that naughty cat.

Im not sure whats going on with me and hatching chicks. The bloody one looks like maybe it pipped below the air cell. Its still breathing and peeping though so maybe it will be zipped in the morning. i had another hatch. looks like a little white one so Im happy I hope the little one didn't die because of me opening the bator...even though I sprayed water and got humidity up and the temp didn't drop..I think it was dead soon after it pipped honestly..looked like a little black one to which I really wanted. none of my splash have pipped yet or my marans but I did see a marans wiggling earlier so I bet I will have one pipped in the morning.

Last final exam is bright and early in the morning!!

My cat keeps climbing into the brooder with my 5 week old chicks. I think she wants to sleep in their hay. Now she is sleeping just outside on the carpet. She loves the chickies.


I had a strange feeling today that I should check the broody's nest. I pulled her out and there were 10 eggs in the nest instead of 8. Crazy hens are wanting to lay random eggs in her nest...either that or she stole them the nest box next door. She's supposed to be on lock down so I won't bother her again until Saturday.

When I got back from taking my final exam this evening hubby said #6 egg was moving. I thought he was messing with me because he's a jokester. When I put the eggs in lockdown I made sure they had numbers facing up in the middle and sure enough egg #6 is now off to one side so it must have moved. I really hope I wake up to a pip or maybe even 2.

I convinced hubby to go along with my crazy and hook up a Webcam to see what we can see. It's set up to turn on with movement so if something happens while I'm sleeping hopefully it will get recorded. I just don't want the kids to miss it in case something happens while they are sleeping or at school tomorrow! Heck I don't even wanna miss anything!
