Speak of the devil. Checked my incubator, and there was a problem! It held stable at 99.5 for 4 days while I waited for my eggs. Of course as soon as I put some in, it screws up. Of course.

The temp on the brinsea mini advance was jumping up and down. 99.1, 99.6, 99.5, 99.7, 99.9, 99.2, all flashing by. I unplugged the power source after reading this can be caused by a faulty power source, it is crawling back up to 99.5 as I type - ok wait no, that is a lie, it made it and is still jumping around. FANTASTIC. I temp gun'd the eggs, their surface temperature is anywhere from 85.2 to 94.6. I don't know what counts as a dangerous surface temperature, I need to look that up, but that seems too cold. I am trying not to panic but I paid 2 day shipping on my egg plate and it took 5 to get here.. 5 days in unstable temperatures could absolutely destroy my hatch!! I am at a loss for what to do, other than keep an eye on the surface temps and order a new power source..

if you just added the eggs the temp will jump around. after adding eggs you should not mess with the temp for 2-4 hours. it will stabilize itself. egg shell temp should be about 100.5 in a forced air. higher in a still air. don't mess with the thermostat just let it stabilize

The eggs have been in for 20 hours. The temperatures are not jumping because of added eggs! In such a case they are alarmingly cold, the incubator is not heating enough. Because it can't even read the temperature it has now, I'd be terrified to up the thermostat. I don't know what to do.

I think I might hand my broody all these eggs and hope for the best until I can fix this..

Setting the eggs will change the balance of your temperature for a little bit, if you want to bump the temp just a hair to get it to level out a little faster, but I don't think it will be necessary, what temp were the eggs at when you set them, room temp?, under? You may want to give it a few to straighten itself out, and then depending on situation... Bump it a little, wait a little longer, repeat if necessary. I wouldn't go anymore than a half degree at a time if that's the route you choose.

The eggs had been under a broody hen for a solid day before being moved to the incubator, so they were warm. They were placed in the mini advance 20 hours ago. The temps had time to stabilize before I even went to bed last night, and were fine then. This is malfunctioning equipment problem

now I'm having temp problems..good thing its in an empty bator though. my thermostat is saying one thing and my expensive supposedly accurate is saying something else

Why emergency? I've heard that chicks can hatch a day or two early if your temp's a tad higher than what it's supposed to be at (I'm a complete newbie at this chicken thing so who knows, that may be wrong, I don't know). Keep us posted I'm excited!
