December Hatch-A-Long 2014

Exactly! Pessimism makes me second guess EVERYTHING I do or do not do with incubating. Which ends up in bad decisions or mistakes being made that would've never come up otherwise and I will be honest... I don't need any help making mistakes!

I have not read this whole post to see exactually what it is about-----sounds like "we" all hatch together---maybe---LOL.

I just set about 65 eggs today, Got 60+ in the hatcher---they are due tomorrow and over half of them have hatched today. I got a little over 100 eggs coming out the incubator in a week. Does this Put me in the "hatch-a-long deal?

I mainly hatch The Normal Chickens---LOL, Yellow Buff, Barred Rock, Gold Laced and Blue laced Red Wyandottes, White Leghorns, silkies, Old English game, Rhode Island red, Speckled sussex, Black copper and Blue copper marans, Welsummers, etc. I started this as a hobby back in june when I built a Incubator and hatcher out of some scrap things I had laying around mainly. I have hatched around 1200 so far but I bought alot of hatching eggs from a Auction---alot of them were not fertile or to old etc---so I only had a few of each dozen to make it to the hatcher. Now I am hatching my own eggs---most all of them hatch. I was putting almost a 100 per week in the incubator but I am in the process of shutting down the incubator/hatcher for about a month or two. I took 80 chicks out of 81 eggs out the hatcher last week and 82 the week before etc, etc, etc, etc. My Incubator and hatcher hatch almost 100% of the Fertile/good eggs that make it to the hatcher. I will admit that sometimes I do put 2 or 3 eggs in the hatcher that I feel will not hatch----do not look right--I do not count these eggs---I do put a ? mark on these eggs but I want to give them a chance---none of them rarely hatch.

Oh my gosh, what do you do with all those chickens? I only have 4 hens as of right now and only a dozen eggs in the incubator. Of those we will only keep about 4 hens. I can't even imagine 100s of baby chicks! But then again I have a small backyard in a little HOA community. Hubby has plans of buying horse property when we can finally afford to more but even then I don't think I'd be able to hatch 100s of chicks!! I just put seven in about a week ago and im sure they will all be mixed breeds as with most of my birds and they are due to hatch on the 7th. I just wish one of them would go broody.
