December Hatch-A-Long 2014

What do you use to separate breeds of eggs in the brooder/incubator? If they all hatch at once? I have two different sets of eggs due to hatch at the same time from two different breeders and would like to keep them separate.
I've heard strawberry baskets can work well if you have room.

I would like to join this hatch-along! Saturday (11/22/14) I set 4 Red Turken eggs, 4 Black Cochin bantam eggs, and 2 Buff Silkie bantam eggs. Hoping to get a good hatch and then be able to sell them to someone who would hopefully like to buy all of them (if they all hatch) at one time. Good luck to all of you with your hatches!!

Hello All, I would love to join your 2014 December Hatch-A-long. This will be my first incubation of purchased eggs, so a little nervous about it. My eggs should be delivered Dec 3 - Dec. 5, so hopefully will have babies by the end of Dec. Best of luck to everyone!
Good Luck! Great to have you hatching with us.

After the loss of the 21 eggs that I had in the incubator I'm going to set 21 more on Friday. Day 21 will be Dec 19th which is my DD's birthday. I thought about doing the New Year hatch-a-long but thought it would be neat to have them hatch on her birthday. She is our animal guru and loves everything about having chickens and ducks.
Birthday hatches are AWESOME! What a lucky girl.

Im becoming convinced that my BO is making a nest in the neighbors wood pile because she has been going over there everyday at around noon then when she gets back she is singing the egg song. Ever since about ten days ago this has happened and she sure hasnt been laying at our house

Good luck! That's such a cool idea! I'm hoping to have an animal guru out of my 5 kids :)

I'd be talking to your neighbor and doing a little investigation lol do they mind that she wanders over there? Just curious. I used to live on a farm house and the people that lived in it before us warned us that the neighbors chickens will always be in the yard and it's really obnoxious but I never minded at all :)

Sitting here in line at Toys R Us for some black Friday deals and I'm just thinking that I really hope my incubator is holding temp and humidity. I've been out of the house since 1pm and probably won't be back till about 8 or 9pm.

This morning I woke up to the humidity at like 29%, 2nd morning in a row. I go to bed with it between 45 and 50%. Any suggestions on how to keep it from dropping so low at night? I'm just concerned about it dropping so low every night.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Humidity is most important at lockdown. If it goes right back up during the day I wouldn't be too concerned. :)

We will be putting in
6 blue egg layer EE.s
6 EE mixed brown or green eggs
6 EE X Silkie
1-2 Ameraucana frizzle X Silkie
Dec. 1
I love your mix!

Grrr yesterday while I was away from the house my temp got to 102 and humidity was 56, I have no idea how long it was at those. Then this morning I wake up to 58% and 100 but the high readings on the thermometer were 61 and 102. Oh my gosh, this is going to drive me nuts. I really hope some of my chicks are surviving. Still have to wait until tomorrow night to candle :/

I've been waiting and waiting for someone to start a December Hatch-A-Long thread and it hasn't happened so I decided to start one. My plan is to set a dozen chicken eggs this Friday Nov. 21st. This will be my first hatch ever. I am so excited and nervous and I hope if I have questions I will be able to get them answered here.

I'd love to hear of others planning a December hatch! :)
