You guys are encouraging my addiction.... I just realized hatch day is also the day to set eggs for an xmas hatch..... hehehehehe think I'll do that and throw in some new years eggs too the following week.

You need to go join in the fun for the big NYD hatch a long! If ya haven't already.

It's very comforting to know we all share the same addiction. I can say, "See, there are other people hatching chicks in the middle of winter!" (Although we are in California, in the northern valley, where our coldest days are in the 20's - but usually it doesn't even get below freezing!)

Yes, I haven't done this much in a few yrs. I do the NYD hatch a long, but I have chicks in my house right now. Silkie babies.

What is a "rolling air cell" and a "saddle shape"? Should I have candled my eggs before they went in?

"For rolling, detached or disrupted air cells
(cells no longer at fat end of the egg but like a bubble level on the long side, rolling or saddle shaped cells), you’ll need to change your hatch plan. These eggs need to sit and settle to room temp 12-24 hours NO TURNING, pointy end down in a Egg Carton to possibly reattach air cells. "

Thanks for the info. After my eggs were shipped I left them to sit pointy end down for 24hrs before starting the incubation. Didn't candle them, but hopefully if any air cells had become "detached" or "saddled", then that would have been fixed. They've been in for 48hrs now.
