December hatch along

Pics
I am hatching right now. 9 out and three pipping. These are all refrigerator eggs from my favorite hens who were recently killed. I have never hatched refrigerator eggs before.
My grandpa used to hatch eggs out of the refrigerator all the time people say it lowers their viability but he always told me as long as you turn the a couple of times a day and let them come to room temp before setting them they’ll hatch

We’re up to 6/7 BA and it looks like the seventh will be out today sometime.

Tossed the Silkie eggs. I left them after the last candling with hope. They were shipped eggs that had been left in a puddle in my driveway. They didn’t grow at all, minus three or four I had some hopes for.

Two Serama still going strong. About to pull them and the other BA out and check the last of the Serama eggs for life.

The rain has stopped some here but lots of water rescues last night from people trying to drive through the flood water. People. :he:barnie Turn around don’t drown! :idunno

My husband is home this weekend. Surprise visit. I wasn’t expecting him for another week minimum! Made him take care of the critters yesterday in the rain. Sometimes being nine months pregnant has its advantages. I got to stay dry. :celebrate

I woke up and still have power. about 4 inches of snow, wet heavy snow it layers of freezing rain. Temps will be 31/32 degrees until 6 pm when it warms up a bit and its just rain. Hope the power stays on. not much is sticking to trees now so the threat of a power outage seems low for the time being. If the power goes out I am going to put the chicks in a rabbit cage in the back of my van and just run the engine. If I lose power come Tuesday night I have to endure 16 degree weather.

Wow, when is your due date? Is this your first baby? So exciting. I have a granddaughter due April 27th.

If we lose power here my chicks will be in the living room.

I am buying a propane heater. Someone just north a few miles of me that I know on BYC sent me a message about power flickering on and off. I still have my power on. I m getting propane heaters... I don't know if you can use them indoors but I have a well vented shed I can live in if I can't use them indoors. If I lose power I guess I am going to move into my largest coop to give body heat to chicks. Not exactly fun but the coops will likely be warmer than my house lol they are 4 weeks old and Tuesday night we get down into the teens (rare cold here). Anyways I am only complaining because I figure if I whine in here it won't be so bad and I will be embarrassed about whining... which is better than saying nothing and then everything goes bad... superstitious I guess. anyways I have 4 more coop roofs to clear and I am warmed up enough to back outside.

I survived the winter storm without losing power... now the bitter cold front is coming which I will complain about elsewhere. I just use BYC to complain about my power possibly going out because I am convinced if I whine about it here... it won't happen. My calendar says I go into lock down on Thursday, Hatch a week from today. I have 42 eggs collected already for next hatch... so I am going to be eating the oldest eggs as I replace them with newer eggs, anyone else do that? My Serama laying hen has started laying hard shell eggs since I switched to oyster shell and general flock feed. Hopefully I can get those to start hatching.
