December hatch-along?

My eggs are in the mail! 20 Sussex, 5 Marans and 5 Araucana from one person, and 20 Faverolles from another.

I'm a bit concerned, 'cause the temp has dropped a good bit and the packages'll be exposed to outside temps whilst in transport.
Hopefully they're well packed...

@Kat MacK So... I read in another thread (forgot which) that their power was out for 6-7 hours and the incubator was off. Eggs were cold. He turned it back on and all the eggs hatched

I'm heartbroken tonight: I discovered when I checked the incubator this evening that it had not been heating all day. Apparently when I stopped the turner this morning, I didn't save the new setting correctly (new incubator), so the entire thing has been off for 12-14 hours. I got it going again, and I'll keep it operating a couple of extra days, but I'm going to be amazed if anything hatches.

Oh no that some survive, i have also read that they can survive a power outage

They hatched out some time between 11 and 1, and are still fluffing up - I'm not sure which of my hens (blue splash, brown-grey, or light grey with darker bits) or roos (light grey with darker bits, or blue splash) they are from as I have them all together right now, but I'm leaning towards some form of grey.

I candled tonight due to expected bad weather over the next few days.

One was infertile (which I expected as it was a first egg), one had a blood ring and was swishing around in the egg, another was also swishing around in the egg.

I cracked them open and the blood ring one was dead as there was no heartbeat, as I expected.

However, the other which was swishing around still had a heartbeat. When I candled it, it was as if nothing was holding it still in the egg at all hence why I believed it had died but sadly not.

The 10 remaining are looking nice and solid though with development!

It's a shame to have lost one after cracking it but it happens...

It's sad but I can't pop it back into the egg now...although it was interesting to see!

I'll take it as a learning curve and found out the black dot that's visible when candling is their eye! (At day 7 that is)

At least she's sitting on a more manageable number now and she still covering all of the eggs.

Too bad that you couldn’t stick it in a Dixie cup and hatch it.

I saw them do that will a chick in a glass. Plastic wrap over the top in an incubator. So interesting to see.
