You did good by getting some eggs from CJ.

Thats where mine came from. All but the pair of whites I got saturday are from her stock and they are very nice birds. I got some back in the spring and it's their chicks that are hatching right now. They are turning out very pretty. I have 3 partridges and one I don't know but it looks like it may be partridge also.

She was the first silkie to lay and they are all laying now. I have a very handsome roo that is doing the breeding and another that doesn't. He will when I separate them later. He is a lavender split, not as fluffy as the others but he has a nice fluffy head. That is if it is a roo. If it's not, she isn't laying yet. My blue one was the last to lay and her first egg was smaller than a quail egg and she sat on that nest just like she was concentrating on a bigger egg. It has to feel like a poopl.

As far as the egg that just pipped a hole and stopped, I noticed dark around the edges and I didn't want to loose it so I just finished helping it out and it may be black like the roo. I'll be able to tell better when it's dry but it seems to be doing fine. It lost a little blood but seems ok. We'll see on that one and the last egg is pipped now. It is a mix, the hen is polish/silkie and the roo is the black lavender split. Should be interesting.

Thanks about the eggs. CJ has some beautiful birds and i hope I get a few fuzzy butts out of the mix.

My bantam Cuckoo Polish hatched out a chick this summer that had a white Silkie for a father. She turned out to be the spitting image of her mom, but with black feathers, eyes, beak, five-toed feet, and walnut comb. Shame she was taken from me by a mink (who I made sure didn't survive long enough to enjoy her massacre).

Did you candle your eggs at any point? Don Schrider a big deal in chickens with the ALBC says he candles only once at day 10. If all is well then he figures things will be ok.

December hatch? Getting ready to set 36-37. Hopeful EE's , Brwn leg. and DEl, and friz's I know it's cold but want some ready to lay in spring instead of fall. Though fall may not be a bad thing since that's when they drop off and newbies seem to carry on.

MW, hope things get good tomorrow. If not and you need some infor on incubation I got some from Practical Poultry mag and can e-mail it to you. It's a good article.

Wish everyone happy healthy chicks

Thats how I was with this last batch that hatched. They where the first ones from my first timer silkies and I was so anxious to see what they would look like. I did have 1 a few days before them that didn't make it. Only 5 made it to lock down out of 13. I've been getting clears for a few months. Apparently the roo figured out how it's suppose to be done. There was one that is a mix that i'm working on a project with but i'm thinking i'm gonna need to put her with a frizzle to get the look I want but she is a white polish/silkie mix with recessive black and the roo is a black lavender split. The chicks is black. The color isn't an issue at this point. It's the look I want. Somebody on here has some. They remind me of Cousin It on the Old Monsters show. All you can see is it's beak and toes sticking out. And they are frizzled. I have a couple frizzle chicks that i'm hoping at least one will be a boy. That will be her new mate come spring. They are looking to be blue.

Good luck on your hatch.

I certainly will. When I first saw the other members birds I went ape and was looking for the breeds to mix to get it. I was lucky enough to get a polish that was already mixed with silkie so that saved me a step. I have a white frizzle but she turned out to be a she. lol I tried a sizzle but she turned out to be a she too. So since she is laying anyway she is with another silkie. When the white pair I have are done with their quarantine time all my whites will go in that pen. I have one of each, frizzle, sizzle, silkie and the polish/silkie mix. There is another white hen that came with the white roo I got last weekend. I'm gonna give them another week before I introduce them.

I always let them free range together to test the grounds on how well they will get along first before putting in a pen together where an abusee can't get away. This pen they will go it I won't be able to see them because it's low to the ground and is covered for the winter. I'll have to put a light in the pen area but the run area is covered with fiberglass sheeting that lets light in. Like a green house.
