A fellow chicken fan had chicks which she identified as OEs, "blue layers", and barnevelders. When I they hatched she said they were: "Lots of blacks and some blues for the OEs and blue layers."
I thought I understood this, but now I'm confused. I have one black and one blue", but does this mean they are OEs that that green and blue eggs respectively (if they are ladies...fingers crossed)?

Black or blue is relative to their base feather color.. black is black and blue is grey essentially.. it's irrelevant to the egg color..

Is that what you are questioning or did I misunderstand?

Yes, but where I am confused is the "Lots of blacks and some blues for the OEs and blue layers." This just means their feathers are colors as you described, but for eggs some lay green (OE) and some lay blue (blue layers)?

How I would interpret that is “the parents of these blue and olive eggers mostly have black and some blue (gray) colored feathers. So they should look similar.”

I'm fairly confused too. Can you ask that lady what she meant?

There is no correlation between feather color and egg shell color. It sounds like the same rooster may be the father of all of them but maybe not. His feather color and egg shell genetics will have an effect too.

I could interpret that to mean that it is possible for the black or blue pullets to lay a blue or green egg but it could mean something else.

That would be my understanding of their description..

Which may or may not be accurate since it depends on their flocks genetic make up and unerstanding thereof.
