I know this might sound horrible to the people who voted 'Negative' on the poll, but I wish we had a vet who did this in my area. I have grouchy neighbors, who will call animal control at any given time, even if the 'offending' animal does not even exist. I LOVE my birds, and I wish I could have roosters, so it is hard to part with my straight-runs that turn out to be males. Even worse, it is hard to find good homes for them.

Someone on here said that "if you don't admire what a rooster does, maybe you shouldn't have chickens at all". I can tell you that I absolutely LOVE the sound of a rooster's crow. Even at 4 o'clock on the morning. And, it's not a matter of admiring anything. Like I said before. I am unable to have roosters, so this procedure would solve all of my problems. Including saving so many innocent bird's lives.

Absolutely and we have to understand that we have created a world in which we are over populated and since most of us are jammed together the noise can be a problem and roosters do add to that noise. Decrowing is our answer.

The shipping has been pretty successful in the past for me. I haven't had any problems. If anybody is interested, just PM me and we can get a shipper lined out.

Also, I just heard the young Blue Andalusian (spelling?) crow yesterday. Virtually silent at about 1 mo. So if anybody's interseted, just give me a shout. I also have several other breeds that are about ready. Thanks.

Do you do this procedure? What does it take to ship a rooster? How much does this usually cost?

Could you describe this to another vet. I am giving some chickens to my daughter but she can't have a rooster (noise). Her husband is a vet. The email address is [email protected].. I will make him aware you are sending him the instructions. I really want to keep this rooster too because he is quiet, and never attacks me. We will be sharing him and having chicks. Thanks.

In case you didn't get my earlier reply. I would like to know if you can explain this procedure to another vet. I am giving some chickens to my daughter and son-in-law and my rooster - until I get moved closer to them. He is quiet and a non attacker! I want him for fertilization of eggs and chicks later. His address is [email protected]
I will tell him your message is coming! Thanks.

Yeah, I can talk to him about this. I doubt he would be successful with it though. I wouldn't have attempted this surgery without seeing it first hand. I'll give him a shout.

I may be interested as well, maybe my vet could do it instead if it would be too difficult to ship a rooster here. How much would it cost to ship a buff orp to connecticut? thanks

It's not too hard or expensive to ship a bird. I'd guess around $50? I sent one to NJ for $48 express. I don't have any buff orpingtons at this time, but if you could locate a young one, preferably about 2lbs and pre crowing, we can get it set up.
