Hi, I was wondering if you can do the deep litter method if you're using sand as bedding?
I'm in sandy, dry southern Nevada so sand is a free and readily available material!

We're already using our sandy soil as bedding in the brooder and the chicks don't seem to mind it at all. They're using it as grit and are dust bathing all the time! It's so cute!

Deep litter and sand are really two different methods. With deep litter, the manure and litter are composting together. Sand is inert. With sand, you scoop the manure out of the sand, like a cat litter box. It sounds like sand might be the way to go in your situation.
