Deer Eatin Chickens?

Are you sure that there is no one locally that would want it? Venison is a wonderful, lean and healthy meat as I'm sure you know, and if you were anywhere near me I'd take it off your hands with heartfelt gratitude, and repay you however I could! Some families struggle to purchase meat, and it sure wouldn't be as healthy as venison..

But I digress! If you want to feed it to your chickens you sure can. It's a healthy protein source for them as long as you feed it sparingly-- like a treat, only some each day. It just shouldn't make up more than 30% of their daily diet, is all I am saying. Lean meats are a great food for them in moderation. You can feed it raw as long as it's still fresh and hasn't spoiled or turned at all-- or if you prefer to cook it you can.

X2.

I've located a couple of friends from church that enjoy ground venison, so they will take some off my hands and I'm going to try a couple of the recommendations from the posters on how to tempt the family to eat it. Thanks all for your input!!!

Mix the venison 50-50% with Ground Beef and feed it to your family,
Or just add beef tallow to the venison, it is so lean that it needs that tallow from beef.
If you do that your family will all enjoy it.
It Worked for me. We Loved it.

We are big deer hunters and my husbands friends usually bring their deer over to our house so that whatever is leftover our dogs can enjoy and use as coyote bait. One of my chickens got a chunk took out of her cause she was trying to take a nibble from a deer leg my dog was chewing on and the dog did not want to share. The chickens pick at the carcass after we cut what meat we want out of it, before we can take it off in the field. They seem to like it.

As I've understood correctly from books and informative stuff that Ive read (not opinions) chickens are omnivores which mean that they eat both meat and plant based stuff. It kinda throws me off when people want to make their chickens vegetarians. I don't get it. Its kinda like making a dog a vegetarian.
