deer hunting

Yes, deer can be pests over here as they get way overpopulated. Each hunter here can legally take over a hundred deer per season and they are talking of upping the limit. And gators...good grief at the crazy amount of gators these days. I personally think we need to up the limit on those controlled hunts too.

Southernbelle - Most all my pics are fresh kill and skinning pics too. I would love to post all of them but I too don't want to upset anyone having to see it. I do have some head shots of the mounts though. Maybe the OP will let us post pics if they mention in the title about it..........? I would think if you open a deer hunting thread you should expect to find dead deer pics...?

I am blessed to live in a state that has (I think) the second largest population of white tail deer. Me and DH hunt every waking minute that he's not working, and we have someone to watch our DD. I shoot the does unless a buck that needs harvesting comes by, and he only shoots the big monster bucks. There are SO many deer where we hunt that they don't get real big, but they are so much fun to watch. Last year I watched some little twin fawns under my stand for hours, and I saw a black fox. I didin't even know there WAS such a thing as a black fox. My DH bout died cause I didn't shoot it so he could see it.

MY DH has a couple stands in the field and woods. He made his own out of scrap boards. OR you can just find a comfy spot in a tree....my DH just sits in alot of trees without a stand and he stalks deer which require being on the ground and no stand. You don't need a stand to hunt

I see so many while horseback riding. There will be loads of deer in each herd. I got to see a moma with a yearling and a new set of twins last year. That was really cool-

Sparkles- Gutting a deer is fun LOL A bit competitive with me and my DH. I think I do a better job. He hates me to stand over him while he does it. We use the hides and we collect as much of the sinew as we can to use for things. My favorite part is collecting the brains for tanning

Lots of deer here...lots n lots n lots. I know there are many states that only let you take a deer or two per season. I am so thankful we have an abundance of them here because I would starve to death over there

I love deer meat more than anything.

eta- I don't know of anyone who actually kills that many deer a year. That is just what you could take if you wanted to. We mainly live off deer all year long and eat it most every single day and we harvest anywhere from 8 -15 deer per year. That usually lasts us all year for our needs.
