deer hunting

That is a nice buck - the second pic was too fuzzy for me but I am sure he was nice too

Looks to be trophy size to me

I'd hang him up on my wall for sure!

I love the little spotted yearling. He/She is so cute! We can't shoot them with spots - it is illegal. Yearlings are my favorite to eat anyway but it would be really nice to have a spotted hide to make something out of. Oh well though...

I fixed the one picture. Far from a Trophy. My Dad has Two Trophies in the Oklahoma Record books and on his wall. He has killed several over the years that were not even mounted. They were for food. I'm still looking for my first big buck. I used to shoot the young ones in the fall. But I was getting too many button bucks. So now I stick to big doe. And bucks if they are 8 points or bigger. 2 years ago I started the Big Doe contest at deer camp. The prize that year was a buck knife which I ended up winning with a 114 lb doe. Last year first Prize was a Ruger 22. My cousin won it wih a 121 lb doe. Since the contest started only one button buck has been taken. And the prize for that was a box of BBQ meal worms my cousin had to eat. Wish I had that video uploaded. We saw lots of young bucks last year too thanks to the Big Doe and Button buck prizes. I hope to see even more this year plus some nice 3 and 4 year old bucks.

I recommend everyone starting a big doe contest. If you want to have bigger bucks in the future. And he ate the whole box of meal worms. But we let him put them on birthday cake. No one shot a button buck last year

We never have any problem with our deer being gamey, really. They are tough, but not bad if you cook it right. We like it as hamburger best too. Also, if they are ran much before or after the shot it makes the meat taste gamey. It is the adrenaline that does it. It also depends some on the quality and quantity of the food. Ours get a lot of corn and milo in the fall, from the fields.

I cant find a picture of me with my buck, but here is my DHs whitetail from 2007. You cant see the body size, like I wanted, but you can see how thick the horns are.

My muley is hanging up behing him, you can see the leg and one antler sticking up over his shoulders.

Oh I didnt mean that all gun hunting was cheating, just on my land. I am in the middle of my property and there are deer everywhere. I could sit in my front yard with a rifle and fill up 5 deep freezers in a weekend.

I break out my trusty 7mm when I head to public lands to hunt!

I feel hunting over corn is cheating kind of. When I feed the ones in my front yard I do not shoot them. I just like to watch them. But when I'm in the woods they are all fair game. I hunt about a mile from the house.

Our deer meat is never gamey either, nor is it dry or tough. I think its really all in how one guts, skins and processes that gives fresh tasting meat. The tenderness or juicyness is all in how its prepared.

We've always felt gunhunting was kind of cheating also, but then that's from a family of bowhunters. The guys always felt that shooting an animal 100 yards from you doesn't take much stalking, planning, or technique, other than having your gun zeroed in.

There are hunters from both persuasions that seem to give both types of hunting a bad name, so its all relative.

I do know that I've never really got the concept of guys "driving" deer to each other, though. The deer is full of adrenaline and the running makes for a bad shot and possibly a slow kill. I can see why that kind of deer meat would taste awful.
