Defective leg

FWIW ...

I had a hen that was hit with a ricocheting bullet (freak accident) through the coop wall. It damaged one leg. She was one of my favorites though, and I tend to do everything I can. She was one-legged for some time but with support she managed. After a long time, she even improved and would stand/walk on two legs, but anytime she wanted to run, she would use just the one and flap her wings to hop-fly. She was as fast as any of the others.

I named her Hopalong after that, a buff orp hen.

If the chick isn't suffering, he might manage. I guess that's up to someone's best judgement. I realize mine had a different situation.

I hate putting down animals. I once had a rabbit kit that there was no hope for and it was suffering, and I'd heard drowning was humane. I disagree, having done it. It was traumatic for both myself and the kit. :( I would prefer a gas-type method, as linked above.
