So your on 21 do you have pips yet? I dont, I got 8 eggs and I keep looking at them constantly. I will be on day 21 officially tonight.

It seems to be pretty popular on this forum. I've only done one hatch. Used egg cartons and was VERY pleased with the results. Clean up is VERY easy. The pipping and zipping eggs don't get overly disturbed. I suppose the only time it's an issue is if the chick pips the wrong end of the egg. I had one of those out of 36. (But I don't know that it would have gone any better had I not used the cartons.)

PS. I have a horse named Silky

it doesnt get in the way of breaking the eggs?

Apparently not, as you can see from my pictures of the pip and the zip. Many folks actually suggested to me that it's easier for the chicks in cartons because they aren't getting knocked all over the place by those that have already hatched.

I dont have that problem. Mine dont even hatch. lol.

I had one pip yesterday about noon. Still peeping this morning. I left for a couple hours. When i got back momma got out of her nest and poked the egg several times and then left for out of the coop. I took the egg since it was close to 24 hrs since a pip and there was only a tiny break in the membrane but the shell was zipped a third way around but no membrane tear to match it. I peeled away half the shell leaving the bottom intact. Placed on a wet warm cloth under a heatlamp. No movement during any of this time. After 15 min and no movement i decided to peel the bottom. Yolk appeared absorbed but chick remained in tight position and no breathing movement could be seen. Wouldnt breathing be evident?

I've got my first 20 muscovy eggs in a Brinsea Octagon 20 with auto-turner. I've thus far kept them "dry" with no additional water in the bator, and the temp is set to 99.5 and only varies by .2 to the low side (it was 1 degree here this morning!). Weight loss appears as normal as estimates given, but fairly consistent between similarly sized eggs. I can identify with the EGGcitement and impatience as I've been listening, and talking, to the eggs for the past 17 days!
ANY advice or tips from successful hatches using similar bator would be appreciated!!! Humidity during hatch, stay dry, yellow goo etc; lay it on me so I am prepared. Last thing I want to do is be the cause of late death due to attempting to help LOL (but not really funny)
