Deformed Baby Chick!

I dont have any bantams. We have a mix of 4 and 6 lb birds. However, we do have other Ameraucanas, so im hoping she will fit in with them.

I've had some chicks hatch like that, I just straighten them with a "shoe" type thing and it fixes it. This has to be done when they are less the a week old though

Yea, the vet did put the shoe on. I even made my own for her before we could get her to the vet. If anything, it seemed to get worse, not better. Although, now she can put some weight on it, even though it is sideways. I tried to straighten it , but the bone wont move. it doesnt seem like it hurts her, though, because she wouldnt put weight on it if it did.

I think you can make a little boot out of bandaids and this will correct that problem...I know I've seen it on other threads...hopefully, someone with more knowlege will chime in and help. In the meantime, I will try and find the thread with the correction...

Good luck! Try listing this under diseases, etc. maybe more people will help there...just a thought!

I would make the boot, but her foot is sideways, so even if the foot can be flatened out, she would still walk on it sideways! Not sure how to explain it better...

Just throwing out a thought....is there anyway to splint her leg in the correct position? Sort of like they used to for kids that toed-in? I'm not sure how to do it, or even if it can be done, but maybe worth a shot? With the boot and splint maybe it would reallign the leg, muscles and tendons and give her somewhat of a chance to walk 'normally'?

Im not sure. Like i said before, i have tried to move the foot in the correct direction so i could splint it, but the bone wont move and the chick keeps screeching and pulling away. Im not sure how to do so without hurting her...i mean, id love to try it, but.....

I have a freind who has a chicken with the same problem. Chicken gets around just fine. i think the chicken is now around 2 years old. never looked in pain, so he just left it alone. Its a hen.

I could be wrong but I believe that it can somewhat be corrected if done so as soon as hatched to maybe a day. I think the bones start to really harden after a few days of hatched. Im sure its to late but I agree with Memphisjourney2seramas.
