I hatched some chick and two of them are deformed. One has a leg that it drags behind it. The other has a swollen neck and a foot that is sort of turned backwards. My wife said that the neck wasn't swollen when it hatched. There was about three hours between then and the time I got home. The swollen one keeps chirping and sounds strong. Is it suffering or a sign that it is fighting? I don't want it to suffer, but want to give it a chance. I need advice.

Relax, and wait for people to reply. I was in the same situation a few weeks ago with our new chicks. I had to put two down, but everyone here were very helpful with ton's of experiance and advice. I know it's hard when you feel or know a chick is suffering. Someone will post with the same past experiance. Good Luck.

Sorry ,I should have replied too . Some critter pulled a leg off one of my new chicks through the chicken wire . I almost took care of it but decided to wait . 9 months old now and one of the bosses of the yard ,names Hoppy .
