Hi there! This deformed egg was in the nesting box this morning. It had blood on the outside and when I picked it up it was soft and yolk came out of if. It was quite small as well. Is this a corrugated egg? It’s the closest I can find but am not sure.
Thank you!!

Ooh.. :hmm

Welcome to BYC! :frow

Sorry one of your birds may be unwell. That may be a corrugated egg. Here is great article..

Common egg quality problems BYC

What is the age of the bird or have you identified who it came from yet? How long have they been with you? Any flock information that might give clues.. like sneezing, wheezing, etc? Have you cut into it and see what's inside? Good photo. Take more if you do cut in.

:fl

ETA.. is it hard or soft.. what's that red thing?

Hi, thank you for your response.
They are about 8 months old and have been with us since 1 day old. I haven’t identified which bird it is yet. The red stuff was blood and maybe other membranes. I picked it up and it broke (was soft) and filled with yolk.

I haven’t identified any flock issues but will be more observant. One of our birds went missing yesterday and I think an owl got her as I saw one hanging around. Could the egg deformity be caused by stress?

Thanks again!

Yes, and it could also be a new layer hiccup from the reproductive system working out it's kinks as it comes on line! Hiccups are VERY common early on. Even softees despite having plenty of calcium on board for the laying gland are common.

Hopefully your other gal is just hiding well and waiting to come out, OR hiding a nest she decided to go broody on. Either would be a nice surprise compared to predator loss, which all too often is without a trace. :fl

It's a yolk that brought it's follicle with it instead being released from the follicle.
No worries, unless it happens often.

Thanks for all of your help! Hoping that our remaining birds are ok!
