Thank you, Robin. I miss him so much. It was so satisfying to see him out there standing like a huge statue, watching over the hens. I was becoming quite attached to Indy. He had so much promise, was so mild mannered around me.
I just couldn't believe it, looking down at his body, feet splayed out behind him, on the ground about 3' downhill from the ramp out of the coop, facing away from it. If Ike charged down that ramp at full speed, he would have hit Indy with such force on his back, it must have been instantaneous. I looked over every part of his body and found not one scratch, just his intestines starting to bulge out a little from the force that hit him. Even sent pictures to Ladyhawk of his body for some confirmation of what I suspected happened, since she knows the sloped spot where I found him and the way the fairly steep ramp comes out of the coop. The only thing big and strong enough in that coop to do that damage would have been Isaac. And since I'd seen him attack Indy from behind more than once, in addition to knowing how he feels about the BR hens, it sort of cemented my suspicions.
I wrote the latest Blue Roo blog post about losing Indy. I just hate when plans are cut short like that. Rex and Deacon are okay, but Rex makes all the hens hide from him and Deacon is so beat down by his dad and Rex, he doesn't even crow right now. He used to, but I haven't heard him crow in weeks. He's a mama's boy (I'm mama) right now, runs to me when they get after him, lol.
